History: Luna lived in the Moon Kingdom during the Silver Millennium. She was a loyal servant to Queen Serenity. When the Moon Kingdom was destroyed Luna and Artemis were the last ones with the Queen. Before the Queen gave up her life to save Usagi's and the other members of the court, she told Luna and Artemis that they must travel to the future and watch over Usagi, and if the enemy ever attacked they must reawaken the Senshi. One day (first episode) Usagi found Luna being harassed by a group of boys, she saved Luna and took of the Band-Aids that were covering the crescent moon on Luna's head. Luna then followed Usagi home and explained that Usagi was destined to be SailorMoon.
Name Meaning: Luna is associated with the moon. (Lunar) Also Luna is the Roman name for Selene, who was the Greek goddess of the moon. Luna (Selene) was brother to Helios god of the sun.
Other: Luna is a great guardian, and is able to guide Usagi wisely. In the original version she had a fairly young sounding voice, and grew-up and matured along with Usagi. While in the North American dub she sounded like and English nanny and is constantly trying to make Serena act her age.
Human Luna: Of all the cats, only Luna has a movie revolving around her. (the SailorMoon S movie). In which Luna falls in love with a human scientist. By the power of the Silver Crystal, Luna was able to transform into the form of a human, and became Princess Kaguya for a short time. (This story also appeared in Manga vol. 11, 'The Lover of Princess Kaguya'. Luna along with Artemis and Diana were show in human form in the manga artbooks.)
