Sailor Moon R, Season 2

Introduction: This was the second season of Sailor Moon. It was split into two parts, the first one dealing with the Doom Tree, Alan and Ann, and the second part dealing with the Nega Moon Family. The first part of this season did not appear in the Manga. This is because it was made as a "filler" to give the author, Naoko Takeuchi, more time to write the other half of the season. This season also included a preview episode at the end, introducing the next season, Sailor Moon S.

Main Characters introduced: Part I: Moonlight Knight
Part II: Rini, Sailor Pluto, Neo-Queen Serenity, and Neo King Endymion.

Secondary Characters Introduced: Part I: Ken
Part II: Melissa, Lizzy, and the Luna P Ball

Villains Introduced: Part 1: The Aliens; Doom Tree, Alan Granger, Ann Granger, and the Cardians.
Part 2: The Nega Moon; Four Sisters (Catzi, Bertie, Avery, Prisma), Rubeus, Emerald, Sapphire, Diamond, Wiseman/Doom Phantom, Wicked Lady, and the Droids.

Summary: Part 1: In the first part of this season, the villains were Alan and Ann. Their mission was to collect energy from the Earth in order to "feed" the Doom Tree. During the night, a light appeared in the sky, and what looked like a meteor fell to the ground and crashed into the middle of a parking lot, in the Juuban section of Tokyo. The "meteor," which created a large crater, was a large green seed-like object with veins. It squirmed around, then levitated over to a nearby building, Juuban Odyssey Apartments, and took over an empty apartment on the top floor. Alan and Ann enrolled in the local school. Alan was very concerned for Ann's welfare. He usually let her choose the Cardians (monsters they used to collect energy). The two of them were very close, as they grew up together and had no one else. On Earth, Alan posed as a 15-year-old student at Crossroads School, which Serena, Amy, and Lita attend. He took the name Alan Granger and posed as Ann's older brother. Alan developed a crush on Serena. Ann tended to be very self-interested; however she cared greatly for Alan. Ann became jealous of the attention Serena received from Alan. She then chased after Darien. In the final episode of the Doom Tree ark, Alan and Ann learned that they had been going about caring for the Doom Tree all wrong. Instead of gathering energy for it, all they had to do was love it. With their new found knowledge of love and friendship, Alan, Ann, and the Doom Tree left Earth in search of a new home.

Part 2: In the second part of this season, the villains belonged to the Nega Moon Family, which was ruled by The Doom Phantom/Wiseman. Their mission was to take revenge against the people of Earth and Neo Queen Serenity, by traveling to the past and rewriting history. The first group of villains to attack were the Four Sisters led by Rubeus. Their job was to find Rini, who had escaped to the past in search of Sailor Moon, and to steal the Silver Crystal. The first of the Four Sisters to attack was Catzi. She was eventually healed by Sailor Moon after being rejected by Rubeus (whom she loved) and protected by Sailor Mars. She then got a job selling cosmetics. After Catzi, Bertie was healed. Bertie was upset by the lack of friendship her sisters showed her and during a battle with Sailor Mercury, Catzi was able to persuade her to let herself be healed by Sailor Moon. Next, Rubeus gave Prisma a powerful wand. The evil power was overtaking her. Then Rubeus showed the sisters and the Scouts the real power of the wand and opened up a new dimension. The Scouts jumped into the dimension and destroyed it. Then Sailor Moon healed both Prisma and Avery. Rubeus then tried to complete the mission by luring the Scouts into his UFO. He set it for self-destruct, but the Scouts escaped. Right before it blew up, Esmerald appeared, but she refused to help him. Rubeus was killed in the blast. Next came Esmerald's turn. She was in love with Prince Diamond and was jealous of his obsession with Neo Queen Serenity. Esmerald asked Wiseman to give her more power, which he did. However, the evil power turned her into a dragon and she was killed after Tuxedo Mask threw a rose into the center of the dragon's crown and Sailor Moon used her attack to destroy Esmerald. Sapphire was loyal to his older brother, Diamond, however he questioned Wiseman's authority, which led to his death. He became injured in a fight with Wiseman and fled to the Earth, where he met Prisma. Prisma treated his wounds and cared for him. Sapphire then tried to find Diamond and warn him of Wiseman's betrayal, but he was killed by Wiseman. It was then that Diamond realized that Wiseman was not on his side. Before his death from Wiseman's attack, Diamond told Sailor Moon that he regreted his actions. In the final episodes of this season, Rini and Serena, with the help of the Scouts, used the combined powers of their crystals and destroyed the Doom Phantom.

Beginning & Ending: Part 1: In the beginning of the first part of this season, none of the Scouts remembered each other, or what had happened. Then one day a monster (Cardian) started attacking people and Luna was forced to return Serena's memories. Later, all of the Scouts regained their memories and helped Sailor Moon fight the new enemies. Only Darien didn't regain his memories at that time. Also, the mysterious Moonlight Knight appeared. At the end of the first part of this season, Alan and Ann discovered Serena's true identity. Eventually the Doom Tree contacted its children, and told them of their past. Serena then purified the Doom Tree and Alan and Ann left to start their new life. Darien's memories were returned, and the appearance of the Moonlight Knight was explained. The Moonlight Knight was really Darien's alter ego, basically his memories. Once Darien's memories were returned to him, the Moonlight Knight disappeared.

Part 2: In the beginning of part 2, a mysterious, small girl appeared from the sky, landing on top of Darien's and Serena's heads while they were kissing. She demanded that Serena turn over the Silver Crystal. Later, a series of new attacks begin and the new enemy was introduced. At the end of the second part, it is told that the mysterious girl, whose name was Rini, was really from the future 30th century Crystal Tokyo and was the future daughter of Serena and Darien. The Scouts also met a new soldier, Sailor Pluto, who guards Time and Space. The Scouts learned that their enemies were from the future and that they were led by the Doom Phantom. Together, Serena and Rini, along with the help of the other Scouts, used the powers of the two Silver Crystals to defeat the Doom Phantom and restore happiness in both the present and future.
